On why Sarah Palin is the only person I could crush in a political debate

I don’t really enjoy talking politics. I enjoy watching other people talk politics but I have a word vomit issue when someone wants to engage in these types of debates with me. It’s embarrassing so I really just like to keep. my mouth. shut. I don’t study up on/enjoy reading about super detailed political wah wah wah on a daily basis (although I will study up when there is voting to be done), I just like to know what’s going on generally. I guess you can lump me with mass of ‘Mericans that have a couple issues about which they feel strongly but don’t have an opinion about everything.

So really, I am doing you a solid by not fully engaging you in your attempts to sway my political opinions in a 3 minute conversation (because LBH, guys. That’s what you’re trying to do. ) Otherwise, you would end the conversation with a lower IQ and a hankering to learn French because you are sure I would have made more sense if you spoke French.

Here’s an example of my political brain. I was listening to NPR yesterday while they were talking about the upcoming 2012 presidential race. My thoughts were as follows.

I wonder if Obama, or any first-term President, gets upset at his presidency being upstaged by the speculation and campaigning for the next presidential race. I know I would. I would slam doors and scowl at people and scream at my chief of staff that he was ruining my life.

Is that….? Does he…..? Does this political correspondent have a lateral lisp? He totally does! And I can’t take him seriously because of it! I’m pretty sure that makes me a horrible person….

Newt Gingrich is running? Does he realize that he won’t get elected because his first name is ‘Newt’? Who names their son Newt? Probably the same type of people that name their son Jimmer….

At least I don’t feel the need to word vomit about politics all over national television (see: The View).

YOU’RE WELCOME.

kai won xiao

You know what's awesome/kind of infuriating about China and Hong Kong and a good portion of the rest of the world? The haggling for goods in the open-air markets. It's awesome when you get a really good deal on something that is actually of pretty high quality but it is annoying when you overpay for a piece of junk.

My parents just got back from a fabulous trip to Hong Kong to see their best friends, Brad and Katie, who live there. Now, my sister and I were able to see Brad and Katie in Hong Kong about 2 years ago as well. Let me tell you a little something about Katie's sweet skills at the market - she is a champion haggler. The Michael Phelps of wheeling and dealing. It's truly a thing to behold. And you can bet my parents came home with some pretty sweet stuff (read: not junk) under her tutelage.

There isn't a whole lot of haggling to be done in America. We deal and discount and we offer and counter offer but it's nothing like China. We generally pay the price on the price tag or go the more polite, non-confrontational route of coupons! and sales! And you can get some pretty good deals that way too.

Pour example: I got a high quality unmentionable last week for $4.52 (orginally $32.99). I also got a highlight and cut for $10.00 (orginally $110.00). But the deal I am most excited about is this house:

We came in a good deal under the asking price. AND I JUST LOVE A GOOD DEAL.

p.s. my year of pictures has been drastically interrupted by a certain BABY who has gone through a ridiculous GROWTH SPURT and was able to reach the strap of my camera (where, just days before it would have been okay) and pull the whole thing off the table and onto the ground. yeah. that's an expensive fix so....maybe next year?

p.p.s. i am pretty sure that the title of this post is spelled correctly but I may be comically WAY OFF on that. if this offends you than you need to stop getting offended so easily.

Just some things

- I don't mind the rain when it's warm outside. And there is thunder. In fact, I enjoy it immensely.

- I thought I was going to go crazy that we're in the middle of buying a house and other logistical craziness and I'm here, in Dayton, Shannon-sitting. However, it is really nice to not be able to pack and therefore feel overwhelmed. So I sew cute clothes for my cute baby and laugh with Shannon while we consume record amounts of chocolate.

- Ava is getting sooooo big. And tall. And I can't handle it. But she is at SUCH a fun age.

- My sister is THE BEST sister in the history of sisters. She is my best friend. For seriousness.

- Saying "niecews" instead of "nieces and nephews" is favorite (thanks, dad).

- The amount of paperwork necessary to buy a house is ca-razy and I feel like they are actually going to slip a line into the contract that says something about them now owning my tiny human. Psssh. Like they could handle her.

- I love going to see my niecews and having my niece be attached to me the whole time, occasionally just stroking my hair softly. I just love her.

- Driving on the freeway at night in the pouring rain with a concrete barrier on one side and a semi on the other is one of my least favorite things in the world to do.

- I am possibly the most blessed person I know.

A change in the wind, says I

Big sigh of relief.

Danny got a new job. Anyone who has talked to me about his current job knows that I have nothing good to say about it. Well, okay. So I have like 4 good things to say about it. But let's just say that we no longer have any stars in our eyes about Danny's chosen profession.

Honestly? I kind of feel like we've been through hell. I'm sure that 10 years from now I will laugh at that statement and say, "oh Tiffany. Don't be so dramatic." But right now? I feel like I am *finally* at the end of a very dark and long tunnel. I see light. I can feel fresh air. I have hope.

We are moving to a town on the Lake Michigan Coast that is a real city instead of being a tourist destination that is closed for half of the year. It is adorable, has the best schools in the state, and there is a TON to do (specially with the kiddo). The firm is awesome and run by a man who puts his family and his God before everything else. I could not be more excited to sink my teeth and my roots into this place.

So next comes all the logistical craziness of finding new people to rent this place, finding and buying a house, packing and moving, etc etc. Thankfully, our new destination is only an hour away so Danny can commute while we figure everything out. Needless to say, I am soooooo glad I left at least 50% of our stuff in boxes. Good job, me.

And last but not least, a few Ava updates:
- She looooves giving kisses. This means that she puts her little forehead on my forehead and puts her little mouth on mine and just stays like that for a second. While I melt.
- Ava will drop everything she's doing the second she hears music to dance. Even if she's in her highchair eating food.
- She likes having "conversations" with me. If she feels like I'm not listening well enough she grabs my arm and tilts her little head in front of my face and repeats what she said a little louder. Though I still have no idea what she said because it's all just babbling.
- Even though she does just babble she has the intonation and gestures down. A-freaking-dorable.
- She is the happiest girl in the world when I let her run around naked.
- She wants to be outside pretty much all day. Stupid weather.
- Ava is a momma's girl. And she doesn't like it when Dad tries to give me a break and takes over the routine on a Saturday morning so I can sleep in. Doesn't like it at all.

She is favorite. I love love LOVE being her momma. (Even now, she is down for the night after a long day and I kind of want to go grab her and snuggle her.)
